TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 28, 2006) - First Metals Inc. (TSX:FMA) is pleased to report that it has received permission from the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources to extract an underground bulk sample of up to 50,000 tons from its Fabie Bay Copper Deposit in the Noranda Mining Camp, Quebec.

This is a key stepping stone in the development of the Fabie Bay project which the company acquired, along with the adjoining Magusi River Volcanic Massive Sulphide (Zinc-Copper-Silver and Gold) deposit from Globex Mining Enterprises Inc. (TSX:GMX) earlier in the year.

Charles Gryba, COO, noted that: "The Fabie Bay Deposit development has been fast tracked in order to capitalise on the current favourable copper prices. Efforts are being made to advance this project as efficiently as practicable, and the cooperation of the provincial mining authorities is both a welcome and critical component to the overall project success. The fact that the deposit is located in an established mining camp, with excellent infrastructure and a very skilled labour force, has also contributed to the project attaining this key milestone within a relatively short timeframe."

First Metals is a mineral exploration and development company engaged in the acquisition, exploration and development of mineral prospects in Canada. First Metal's activities are currently focused on the Fabie Bay and Magusi River Projects in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt Region, near Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada.
